I'm an avid weapons collector. Whether it be blades, blunt weapons, or ranged weaponry, I have a little bit of everything in my collection.

The Ultramarines Primaris Assault Intercessor in all his glory!

The Ultramarines Primaris Assault Intercessor in all his glory!

With the armies of Chaos spreading their plague of terror across the globe, I absolutely could not resist making an impulse buy of the lovely little action figure that Games Workshop just released through McFarlane Toys. This Ultramarines Primaris Assault Intercessor is one of the coolest action figures I have ever had the pleasure of purchasing. He is well-built and made to last, and even better, his size is something to admire, because I thought for sure he'd be a lot smaller!

You couldn't go wrong in purchasing this toy for long-time fans and children alike, but let's give you a basic rundown of this sexy hunk of plastic!

"Space Marines are the champions of the Imperium, Mankind’s most elite fighting force. The combat prowess of these heavily augmented warriors is backed up by the best weaponry and equipment the Imperium can provide. Clad in nigh-impenetrable power armor, each Space Marine combines excellent close combat skills with deadly shooting accuracy. Space Marine armies are hard-hitting, able to tactically adjust to any foe or situation. A wide range of troops and vehicles enables them to launch lightning strikes, armored spearheads, airborne assaults, or any other strategy a commander can envision."

A Quick Personal Overview

Alright, so on to the reason you came here, and in a shortened context so you won't have to read past this point if you're impatient. I know we're all busy individuals with lives to live, and reading the opinion of some guy on the internet is not high on your priority list. Here we go, speed round, all the reasons to buy this lovely Intercessor:

  • Extremely sturdy and strong material
  • Versatility is a big bonus, great for pictures
  • No small pieces like with smaller models
  • Can be posed without using the stand
  • Large enough to be seen, but compact enough to be your desk-buddy
  • True to the lore
  • Easily alterable and able to be repainted to your desired Ultramarine Chapter
  • I'd feel comfortable letting my 2-year-old play with this despite the 12+ age recommendation

Now that we have our overview out of the way, I'd like to get into the nitty-gritty for the more pedantic in the crowd!

Very Few Complaints—If Any

Unlike with everything else in my life, this action figure hasn't brought any real need to begrudge my choice to purchase him. With other action figures, you have a lot of sensitive bits and pieces that—once accidentally bumped—snap off and make you wanna scream to the high heavens for divine retribution against the designers. However, that just isn't the case with this piece.

What I will say, and I advise you to take this with a grain of salt, is that I wish they had more models available for purchasing here and now. The vast lore of Warhammer 40k as compared with the current action figure selection of the franchise is an egregious disparity. Only two models to choose from as of yet, and one of them is a dang Necron Warrior—No one likes Necrons!

Aside from that, my only other complaint would be the lack of flexible hands and fingers for the ease of equipping his weapons. Notice that I said flexible, not opposable, because I like the fact I don't have to worry about his joints breaking or loosening over time. However, it was quite difficult to get his Chainsword and Heavy Bolt Pistol into his hand; which is quite nearly a benefit if you plan to gift this to a younger child for play and use rather than decoration.

Other than those two complaints I have nothing but praise for this sweet Primaris Intercessor action figure!

So Many Praises—Great for Children!

The biggest praise I have for this action figure, despite its recommended 12+ age range, is that its sturdiness stands up to even the most gruesome treatment from my 2-year-old! Yes, you heard me right; I handed this thing to my 2-year-old son and let him put it through its paces. From one end of the room to the other—and then back again—this Primaris Intercessor action figure stood up to the test of toddler treatment.

This action figure is so darn sturdy that he only ended up with a few scratches and scuffs, but even his removable shoulder armor didn't come off! All of this is something I find to be a huge benefit because I'm always looking for new toys to give my kid that can withstand a heavy beating, and now we can share an interest in the greatest hobby ever created. If you have a kid or a family member who needs a gift idea that isn't just a toy but also a life-enriching hobby, then you could not be making a mistake with this epic purchase.

Considering the size, sturdiness, detail, and versatility of the Primaris Intercessor, you'd think that the price would be ridiculously high. I remember back in the day when Halo was still the next big thing, and I paid upwards of $60 for action figures that would snap limbs off from a three-foot fall to the rug, or if someone looked at it too hard! However, Games Workshop really went the extra mile in their design for this action figure, and the price point is nearly unarguable as far as fairness for the product they deliver.

Most certainly, I'll be looking to fill my desk with more of these collectible action figures when they produce more models in the future.

He will be my desk-buddy forever!

Final Verdict: I Need More Now!

For my final verdict on the Ultramarines Primaris Assault Intercessor, I have to say that I'm eager to splurge on the next models of Astartes that they decide to produce. I bought two of the same model; one for collectible purposes, and the other for being my desk-buddy, but I'm already itching to drop my extra money on more! As my son grows up it'll be really cool to build up our own army of miniatures and action figures, and have battles all across the house with them!

That really is the biggest reason to be excited about the introduction of these action figures to the Warhammer 40k franchise products: Getting to go from miniature tabletop battles to large-scale posable action figures and—Emperor willing—vehicles! There would be nothing more fun than assembling armies composed of these larger figures, and seeing what Games Workshop could come up with as far as larger events with these action figures.

Until they produce a myriad of different models, though, I'll be content to line my desk with them and give my son his own to start building his collection! Hopefully you feel the same as well, and support Games Workshop in its endeavor to make Warhammer 40k even greater than it already is!
