Why Read Medical Manhwa and Webtoons?

Here are some of the best doctor manhwa and webtoons you must try.

Medical Return

Medical Return

1. Medical Return

Kim Jihyun is a talented middle-aged surgeon. But being skillful doesn’t mean success—not when you have an envious psycho after you and your life is just a mess. Debt, divorce, cancer, and tons of regret: He has it all.

But a twist of fate will give him a gift for doing a good deed. It offers Kim Jihyun chance to relive his life, fix all his mistakes, and move forward.

My Rating: Despite its lackluster title, I’ll rate Medical Return 8/10. The art is unexpectedly captivating. The plot and characters are well thought-out and human. If you’re just starting to read in this niche, then this is among my must-read manhwa recommendations.

Dr. Elise: The Royal Lady With the Lamp

Dr. Elise: The Royal Lady With the Lamp

2. Doctor Elise: The Royal Lady With the Lamp

Dr. Song is one of the leading medical professors in Korea. She's a master surgeon; she's young and talented, and she has a bright future ahead of her. But an accident in the sea will cause her untimely death.

Yet, destiny is as fickle as manhwa authors. She wakes up and finds herself transmigrated into the body of Elise. With all her medical memories intact, she’ll fix the ails of the empire. Of course, she’ll marry a handsome prince. The end.

My Rating: Yes, this manhwa is both a romance and a medical webtoon. The plot progression and the characters are nothing groundbreaking, but their delivery is sweet. The art is beautiful, as expected of a romantic manhwa. I’ll rate Doctor Elise 8/10.

Dr. Choi Tae Soo

Dr. Choi Tae Soo

3. Dr. Choi Tae Soo

Stressed, sleepless, and bullied at work, Choi Tae Soo struggles as an intern doctor. With his confidence hitting rock bottom, he knows he will not last long.

But a stroke of fate will put him at the deathbed of the world’s best thoracic surgeon. And through the fickle plot twist, Choi Tae Soo magically inherits all of the surgeon's skills. (Come on now, show me those surprised faces.)

My Rating: The main character’s progression as he delves deeper into his profession will keep you turning the pages. Still, the seasonal shifts in the art style are a bit annoying as you read. Though the art changes are for the better, I still don’t like inconsistent art because it makes a manhwa hard to follow. I’ll rate this 8/10.

Severe Trauma Center

Severe Trauma Center

4. Severe Trauma Center

Baek Kanghyuk isn’t a pushover, nor is he anyone’s yes-man. He’ll do anything to save his patients, even if he doesn't follow the rules. A born rebel, he’ll break through all the useless traditions and medical red tape. His goal? It's simple: to save the lives of his patients.

There aren't any sudden power-ups or damn cheats. There's no magical meme. There are just classic medical techniques and a good old badass doctor in the operation room. I love it. This is a top-tier doctor manhwa that I heartily recommend.

My Rating: Severe Trauma Center deserves a solid 10/10. Out of all the medical manhwa I have read, this stands tall. The plot stays true to its genre and delivers what every medical niche reader wants—realistic and logical medical treatments. The art isn’t super stunning, but it feels truthful to the medical genre.

A.I. Doctor

A.I. Doctor

5. A.I. Doctor

Lee Soo-hyuk is a resident doctor hoping to become a neurosurgeon. But when a medical tour to see a diagnostic artificial intelligence (A.I.) supercomputer goes haywire, he almost becomes a casualty. As soon as he wakes up, he realizes that the A.I. went into his brain.

Looking for something sci-fi, like an artificial intelligence getting inside a doctor’s brain? Great, this is the manhwa you're looking for.

My Rating: I’ll give A.I. Doctor a 7/10. It has a tired wish-fulfillment story template: A young doctor gets an easy cheat because of an accident, then he steps up with his cheat and cures everyone. The art isn’t bad, but the plot and characters are a bit dull.

Super Genius DNA

Super Genius DNA

6. Super Genius DNA

No artificial intelligence? No problem—not when you have a gene-altering sentient bio-cell living inside your body. Low IQ? We can boost that. Ugly? We can fix that, too!

Join Young-Joon Ryu in his quest to master everything in the medical field. Of course, he’ll treat every ailment, aside from humanity’s chronic stupidity. Remember, this man isn’t a doctor. He is a god.

My Rating: Despite the title, this isn’t anywhere near sci-fi. Super Genius DNA is pure fantasy clothed as medical manhwa. The plot is another rinse-repeat template, but it’s not bad. The art is also gorgeous enough to carry me through the binge. I give it an 8/10.

Perfect Surgeon

Perfect Surgeon

7. Perfect Surgeon

A perfect surgeon? This is madness.

After his father dies due to medical negligence, Jang Hyun-Joon dreams of becoming a perfect doctor. Unfortunately, having an ailing mother and debt doesn’t help him achieve his dream.

Now let’s add a stroke of luck and some bionic artificial intelligence into the mix. A perfect surgeon? Everything is now achievable.

My Rating: I’ll rate Perfect Surgeon 8/10. The art and plot progression flows well enough to keep me scrolling until the end. Its characters are rich in emotional depth, impressive enough to give me a few feels. It's one of my top manhwa recommendations.

Level Up Doctor

Level Up Doctor

8. Level Up Doctor

Jeong He-Jin has put his everything into becoming a cardiothoracic surgeon. But he gets into an unfortunate accident and dies, along with his dream.

But in a twist of fate, he wakes up again, not as He-Jin but as Choi Gi-Seok. And wait, there’s more: He has a leveling system of his own.

My Rating: Level Up Doctor deserves an 8/10. With a striking art style, a well-paced plot, and a bunch of likable characters, this medical manhwa is perfect for new readers. There aren't any hard-to-understand rare diseases to cure; it's more about a new doctor’s daily struggles.

Doctor’s Rebirth

Doctor’s Rebirth

9. Doctor’s Rebirth

Jin Cheonhee has spent his whole life as a physician on the war frontlines. But death comes for all, even the good ones. He’ll soon meet an honorable death while protecting a patient.

Still, his story doesn't end there. Fate brings him into a novel he once read about a world of martial artists and vagabonds—the Murim. But in an era where death is nothing new, how will a former war physician fare?

My Rating: Doctor’s Rebirth is worth 8/10. Though the plot is cliché, the authors did it justice. The story is well done, clean, and engaging. Then add top-tier manhwa art and realistic characters that act their age, and you have an engaging medical webtoon.

The Legendary Beasts Animal Hospital

The Legendary Beasts Animal Hospital

10. The Legendary Beasts Animal Hospital

There’s a special place for pets in my heart, so I was drawn to this manhwa about a veterinarian. Of course, he's not just an ordinary vet, but a legendary one—a beast doctor who cures flame-breathing dragons and phoenixes.

If you’re tired of too many action-fantasy manhwa, then try this vet medical manhwa for a change of pace.

My Rating: The Legendary Beasts Animal Hospital deserves an 8/10. The art strikes the right notes and flows well. The story is written with good humor, and it kept me in high spirits. It's a relaxed and chill read, so it's one of my must-read manhwa recommendations.

The Ghost Doctor

The Ghost Doctor

11. The Ghost Doctor

When Lee Moo-Jin, a rebellious brat, accidentally brings a scalpel out of the hospital, he finds himself haunted by a ghost doctor. So what do you do when you have a genius ghost doctor on call? Duh, you treat patients, even if you’re still a high school student. You cheat and perfect the exams.

My Rating: The Ghost Doctor is an 8/10. The plot progression is simple and easy to follow. But the main character? He's titanium-armored. The plot works for him and hands him everything. Still, the art looks apt for the story. But if you like realistic and mature medical manhwa, then this manhwa isn’t for you.

The Prince’s Personal Physician

The Prince’s Personal Physician

12. The Prince’s Personal Physician

With a creepy stalker chasing her, Rhena accidentally slips and drowns in a river. This incident transmigrates her to a strange medieval-era kingdom. This super-conservative nation forbids women to practice medicine.

But with the help of a knight, she’ll become the personal physician of a sickly prince. Of course, she’ll disguise herself as a man. But for how long can she hide her secrets?

My Rating: The Prince’s Personal Physician is a romance manhwa with a medical subplot. The art isn’t bad, but it’s average. The characters are also unrealistic and tailored for satisfying the romance niche audience. The plot is generic wish fulfillment. I rate it a 7/10. This is just not for me.

To Hell With Being a Saint, I’m a Doctor

To Hell With Being a Saint, I’m a Doctor

13. To Hell With Being a Saint, I’m a Doctor

Yusung has spent his entire career working in the operating room. He has genius-level surgical skills. Unfortunately, geniuses don’t live long, and a traffic accident takes his life. But a stroke of fate reincarnates him into a fantasy world. And with Earth’s medical knowledge plus his new healing magic, he’ll soon revolutionize the art of healing.

My Rating: I’ll give this a 7/10. The art isn’t bad and has potential, but it suffers from pacing issues. The characters are iffy and didn’t get my attention. And the plot looks more like an action fantasy than a medical manhwa.

The Divine Surgeon

The Divine Surgeon

14. The Divine Surgeon

Dr. Han Jinsoo has lived an honest life as a doctor. Still, life has never been fair. Despite all his good deeds, he ends up fired from his job, swindled by a crook, and killed by the person he trusts.

Still, luck and good karma will give him a second chance. He doesn't return to his own past but rather transmigrates to the warring period of the Eastern Han Dynasty. But in a land where disease and chaos run rampant, can he still live an honest life?

My Rating: I’ll rate The Divine Surgeon 9/10. Its plot might be a tired rehash of transmigration, but the delivery of the story and the pacing are top tier. The art is also amazing and gives off the murim vibe. If you like Doctor’s Rebirth, then you’ll like this goodie.

Heart Crush

Heart Crush

15. Heart Crush

Dr. Yoo Daon likes Dr. Kang Juheon. So when she realizes she might not see him again, she bravely confesses her feelings. Then she runs off, not waiting for an answer.

But she later finds out that Kang Juheon has called off his resignation. And now, he plans to stay as a senior thoracic surgeon in her medical unit. We know what’s brewing here, folks: love.

My Rating: I’ll rate this manhwa a 9/10. How are the plot, characters, and art? Two words: sweet, funny, and fluffy. (Wait, that's three!) Anyway, if you like romance and medical webtoons mixed together, then Heart Crush will sweeten your day so much you'll get toothaches.
