What Is the Best (Most Powerful) Nerf Gun?

Updated on June 2, 2016

Which Nerf Gun is best?

Nerf Guns have been around for many years, however it’s only recently that there’s been resurgence in the use of these ‘safe’ guns especially amongst the teenage population. As a whole new generation begins to play games like Capture the Flag, the technology behind these guns has improved vastly and there are now far more choices.

The guns I list on this site are the most popular and some would argue best guns available – I’ll leave it to you to be the judge - please join in the poll at the bottom of this site - if I've missed out any weapons, let me know and I'll check them out!

Note: Some of the guns are not available for purchase from the manufacturer, but they are still available through Amazon - they tend to cost several hundred dollars though. I list the retail cost from Amazon - some guns will be discounted so it's always worth checking.

Best All Round Nerf Gun: Nerf N-Strike Longshot CS-6 Review

In my opinion this is perhaps the best all-round Nerf gun of them all. It's a two-in-one blaster that can launch arrows almost 35 feet with amazing accuracy using the targeting scope. It comes with a reload clip that holds 12 darts.

However, if you need quick shots at close range you can remove some parts to give you a one-handed pistol blaster. This gun is versatile and accurate and allows you to go into sniper mode or close combat mode!

It's a fairly long gun and one of the most customizable out there. There's no glue and with the removal of a few screws and the addition of a spring you will have a blaster that can shoot up to 100 feet.

Pros: Long range, very accurate, sturdy, easy to use, customizable, reloads very quickly.

Cons: Jams easily, scope is useless

Cost: $250

Best of the Rest

You may not agree with my choice of the top Nerf gun as it is a very subjective thing - so here are some of the other top Nerf guns available:

Nerf Demolisher 2-in-1 Review

If you're a serious Nerf gamer then there's probably only one gun for you - the Nerf Demolisher is a semi-automatic rifle that has a great missile launcher.

It comes with a 10-dart clip. It has a range of up to 70 feet but as the batteries wear down and the darts become damage this will get reduced to 40. The rate of fire is pretty decent based on when you shoot - but the 10-dart clip isn't really big enough.

The gun is very sturdy and will allow you to play a 'rough' game without worrying about breaking it - it gives you confidence in your ability to run and dive without losing your ability to fire!

Pros: Long range, very accurate, sturdy, easy to use, customizable.

Cons: very noisy, requires batteries, missile launcher is awkward to use.

Cost: $40

Nerf Rebelle Rapid Red Review

First of all ignore the color, this is a pretty decent little gun. This is a pretty decent battery operated gun that holds 12 darts. It has a range of up to 75 feet and fires rapidly. It has decent accuracy.

The beauty of this gun is that it is pretty light weight and can be used one handed.Without trying to be sexist this gun is perfect for the female gamer; having said that, it also is a great gun for stealth mode as it is light and fairly quiet to use.

Pros: good range, light weight, quiet.

Cons: jams often.

Cost: $30

Nerf N-Strike Vulcan EBF-25 Review

This was the first gun that my daughter bought and she simply loved it. It is a fast loading gun that holds 25 darts and it loads very fast.

It’s a semi-automatic gun but isn’t the most accurate Nerf gun available. While it requires batteries to use to full effect, you can still use the pump action to fire the gun if the batteries die.

While not the best gun for assault action, it’s a great gun to provide cover for your allies especially as it has a large clip.

Pros: Fast reload, large dart clip.

Cons: jams easily, not very accurate.

Cost: $500

Nerf N-Strike Raider Rapid Fire CS 35 Blaster Review

This is a very versatile gun that has multiple modes allowing for you to either defend or attack. It has a large capacity so it can continue to fire (without re-pressing the trigger) for quite a while. It is very accurate at short distances. It does take a while to load and this can be a detriment when defending against heavy attacks.

One of the biggest downfalls is that the gun is inconsistent – the range can vary from 40 feet to 10 feet!

Pros: large capacity, light, fast fire on auto mode, accurate at short range.

Cons: long reload time, can jam, inconsistent range.

Cost: $75 or more

Nerf Reactor Review

This is a fun gun that allows you to launch foam balls! It’s a very simple gun, very easy to use and load but probably not for the serious Nerf warrior. It is very accurate and with practice it is possible to launch the balls very quickly.

While not suited for a serious game of Nerf war, this is a great gun for a fun office game, or birthday party. The gun is very sturdy but should probably only be used inside.

Pros: fun to use, sturdy

Cons: can be difficult to fire, not for the serious gamer.

Cost: $30

Nerf N-Strike Maverick

While the modern Nerf gun surpasses this one, I consider this to be one of the best Nerf guns of all time; if you are old-school then this is the gun for you.

It allows for six darts to be loaded very quickly and the pump action allows for quick and accurate shooting – while it is not the most powerful gun available, it really is fun to use and out of all the guns available seems to be the sturdiest – many of the other ‘mechanical’ guns seem to jam very easily – and that’s not a good thing to happen mid battle.

Pros: fast loading, accurate, sturdy

Cons: low capacity, short range.

Cost: $22

Nerf N-Strike Elite RapidStrike CS-18 Review

This is an excellent gun; it has a very good rate of fire a large capacity, a decent range and is fairly accurate. It requires 4 batteries to be used and there is a noticeable difference in range when the batteries are low, but they do last quite long.

The range is close to 80 feet, but for best accuracy you want to try to contain yourself to 30 or 40 feet. One downside is the fact that it can jam – it doesn’t jam often, but when it does you are out of action for a while.

Pros: Large capacity, good range.

Cons: Very hard to recover from a jam, very loud.

Cost: $52

Nerf N-Strike Elite Retaliator Review

This is a fun blaster that is incredibly accurate at short range but also has a very long range with average accuracy. Its small size makes it ideal for teenage players, however as it is powerful it is not ideal for young children.

This is a very powerful shooter and this can make it hard to aim over longer ranges. Adding a barrel attachment will help to stop the darts spinning out of control, but even with the attachment this really is only ideal for close quarter battles.

Pros: Good range, great for close quarter battles.

Cons: Can jam, not very accurate

Cost: $25

Where are the nitefinders? They often get largely ovelooked but they are really accurate and powerful pistols. Its more of a sniper in pistol clothing. coupled with wistleing darts and the nitefinder dominates.

The Recon, well, it looks awesome...and it does everything well...but shoot. If you want a GOOD clip-system gun, save up enough for a Longshot. Not a LongSTRIKE, which is SHIT, but a LongSHOT.

Crossfire bow is the best! Real gun sights for devastating accuracy, and with the praxis stock attached it's got comert that's hard to beat. And it shoots up to 75 feet.
