Items That Every Bookworm Needs
As bookworms, we enjoy a good read. We tinker with our imaginations as we browse through the magic of books. The following is a reader’s survival manual to help book lovers enhance their adventures into the crafted world of fiction. Other than a good book, there are essential items that every book sleuth must have.
- Reading Light
- Reading Corner
- Book Bag
- Book Sleeve
It may seem obvious, but if you’re a reader, you unquestionably need a collection of books. Even with our world of eBooks and the internet, your library is not complete without a set of hardcopies. Bookworms typically collect novels in their preferred genre or from their favorite author.
Technology has given the wonderful benefit of gathering enthralling stories on our iPads, laptops or even cell phones; nevertheless, keeping a library of strictly digital reading can become an exhausting experience for the avid reader. So, keeping a collection of physical books—even a small collection—will suffice for those of us who love to rifle through the pages. There is nothing like holding your favorite novel in your hand.
A reading light is a key part of the survival kit for an avid reader. During those hours spent reading in solitude and dim lighting—such as in the attic or behind a shadowy desk—a light will make it easier to flip the pages. In the dark hours of the night, a reading light can help you fit in one more chapter so you can find out what is going to happen to the hero before closing your eyes. Indeed, when you reach for that guilty pleasure novel you keep under your pillow, it may be too dark for you to actually read it—so a reading light is a must-have!
A light by your bed or a small handheld light may suffice for the average reader. Local bookstores usually offer book lights for readers. A conventional option is one of those reading lights that clip onto the top of the book and cast light directly over your page. You'll be prepared for the inevitable reading that will take place in the wee hours of the night!
A bookmark is another essential item to keep handy. Every reader has had the experience of flipping through the pages in aggravation, trying to figure out where they left off reading. A bookmark will save your spot and help you immediately find that climactic moment once again.
Though you may use a scrap of paper as a bookmark, avoid folding down the corners of the book's pages; this terrible practice is known as dog ears. It is vital to keep a bookmark or two handy so you can resist the temptation of dog-earring the pages and protect your books!
Bookmarks come in many shapes, sizes, and types, such as themed bookmarks, fabric ones with tassels, metal strips, or corner bookmarks. You may cut construction paper or watercolor paper into the proper shape for your favorite novel or choose a more decorative pattern. There are plenty of DIY tutorials on YouTube to help you create the perfect bookmark. Bookmarks are similar to your favorite books; choose your favorite one to keep between the pages.
A reading corner is ideal for the reader. Whether it exists on the inside of your home or outside by the garden, it is the preferred dwelling for the book lover. It may be on the couch, in a comfortable rocking chair, in your room, or atop a big cushion. This could be a book-themed corner!
A reading corner provides a cozy place where you can pick up a novel and enter its magical world. It must be a comfortable reading spot. For seating, your corner may include a cushion, chair, small bed, or a seat between two bookcases. You may only want a picnic chair by the flowers, or you might become extra creative and theme your reading corner with books or posters. Simply put, this is your special place to read!
While flipping the pages, you may come across the occasional confounding word. The words create the magic of the story, and you may not wish to be interrupted while you're enthralled in that climactic moment. Unfortunately, enthralling chapters may have words scattered throughout them that a reader might not comprehend, and the meaning of those magical moments are lost.
Having a dictionary on hand can clarify the exact meaning of our favorite dialogue or a significant part of the tale. It can be worth it to keep a dictionary in the library. A pocket dictionary is also easy to carry around and consult quickly.
Any novel collector will need a special place to keep those hardbound pages, and they'll therefore be in desperate need of a bookcase. This is an essential piece of furniture for the bookworm. The fun thing about collecting a never-ending number of books is that you may create a unique type of bookcase to house those special books.
Custom bookcases come in all shapes and sizes; for example, one may be shaped like a heart or simply expand across the entire wall. You may choose a small one with few shelves. Floating shelves for books are a nice addition to a room, as well as being space-saving. The possibilities are endless for that library of prized books!
A book bag will frequently come in handy for the avid reader. Though a backpack can suffice, it can be cumbersome at times. Many readers aren't satisfied with just one book and may want to carry several novels along with them, especially those favorites! A book bag will help you bring your novels along when you're on a road trip, at the café, waiting in a line, or sitting endlessly in a waiting room.
A bag will also protect the glossy covers or hardbound matted covers of your favorite books, and it will guard paperbacks against curled pages or ruffled edges. A book bag is a must-have when you're traveling to and fro with your books, whether you're going to an unwanted destination or your favorite place.
A large mug lets you keep a very warm drink nearby while you're reading that cozy mystery (or another book). Whether you prefer coffee or tea, there is nothing like sipping that warm nectar while reading your favorite novel, especially on a rainy day when the best recreation consists of staying indoors and reading.
For the bookworm, one of the great pleasures in life is to pick out a novel from your prized collection and enjoy it in maximum comfort—preferably with a warm beverage. It is quite fun to pick out a beautiful mug or purchase a themed one that shows your favorite movie or novel. (You don't necessarily need a mug, though; any sturdy, thick cup will suffice.) You can enjoy the passing of each chapter while sipping your delicious drink.
It is sometimes difficult to remove a book from the shelf because we wish to avoid damaging the beautiful book cover. Paperbacks can become frayed when you stuff them into a bag or backpack. Avoid damage by slipping your favorite novel into a handy book sleeve. For traveling, you may carry the book in a bag or with other items while inside the sleeve, without the pages wrinkling or the cover becoming scuffed.
Believe it or not, audiobooks are a must-have for the avid reader. Having an audio version of your favorite novel is not only soothing, but also a unique adaptation for your book collection. While performing those everyday chores or sitting in the car for a few hours, you may listen to an enthralling story.
Audiobooks have become more and more popular as the years have passed. There are free versions of audiobooks on YouTube, or you may find popular collections at the bookstore that are read by celebrities or professional readers. Your book collection may also include audiobook CDs alongside the hardcover copies.
The most important thing to remember is to stock your bookcase with books you love to read. The stowaway novels you've kept over the years (or the required reading that you've thrown into your pile) may be kept apart in the attic or basement. The world of fiction has a variety of genres and spellbinding plots to treasure. Enjoy your book collection and the next adventure of mystery and enchantment.
