100+ Fun "Family Feud" Questions and Answers

I've played many games of "Family Feud" with my family and friends, and now I'm sharing my favorites with you.

"Family Feud" is a fun game that's perfect for parties and gatherings. You can even play it online over Zoom or Skype!

How to Play Family Feud

A typical game starts with three normal rounds that each feature one question. These are followed by one Fast Money round with five questions. So, there are a total of eight questions per game.

How to Play Normal Rounds

  1. Choose one person to be the "host." The host is the only player who can see the questions and answers.
  2. Split the rest of the players into two teams. For each question, one player from each team will be chosen to hear the question first. Those players will have one chance to answer the question. The team of the player whose answer was worth the most points gets to start the round.
  3. Players from that team make guesses one at a time, in order. Whenever a given answer overlaps with a previous answer, the host will tell the player to guess again. If an answer is too vague, the host will tell the player to be more specific. An incorrect answer earns the team a strike. If a team guesses all the answers before earning three strikes, the total value of their answers is added to their score.
  4. After three strikes, the other team has one chance to guess a remaining answer. If they guess correctly, they get to steal all of the points from the correct answers given by the other team.

How to Play Fast Money

  1. After the first three rounds, the winning team chooses two players to leave the room.
  2. One player comes back in and is given the five Fast Money questions. They only have one chance to answer each question. The host adds up the total for the answers that were correct.
  3. Then the second player returns and answers the questions in the same way. If the second player duplicates an answer, they must guess again. The host adds up this person’s total.
  4. If they both combine to get to 200 points, the team is declared the ultimate winner!

The Fast Money round is usually timed (60 seconds), and it really puts people on the spot! You can expect some funny answers.

Other Ways to Play

  • No Teams: This variant is a free-for-all where everyone tries to guess. This can get loud with more than five people! Scoring is optional. Everybody has more fun when all the answers are guessed, so when we play this, the host often ends up giving hints until all the answers are revealed.
  • Pen and Paper: This is popular at my house. Read all the questions in a row. (Treat the Fast Money questions like normal questions.) Each player takes one guess for each question, writing their answers on a piece of paper or in their phone. Then you can see who got the highest score.
  • Pen and Paper, Fast Money Only: This is how we play when we have less than five people, since someone has to be the host. After playing No Teams for the first three questions in each round, we play Pen and Paper for the Fast Money questions. If more than one player makes the same guess, we only award points to one of them, and we try to break 200 total, just like the show.
  • Literal Words: The host only accepts answers exactly as they appear on the page. This is another one where the host's discretion is advised.

Can You Play Online and Over Zoom?

Yes! Family Feud works great over Zoom, Skype, or any other video-conferencing program. You don't need a special setup. Like usual, start by choosing one person to be the host, and make sure the host can access the question/answer list. Don't give any other players the link to the list to prevent cheating!

Team Tips

Since team members might not be in the same room when you're playing via video conferencing, make sure that all players understand which team they're on. If the program you're using allows participants to change their backgrounds, this can be a fun way to distinguish the teams—all the members of one team could use the same background image or color, while the other team all uses a different image/color.

How to Handle the Fast Money Round Online

When a selected player needs to "leave the room" for the Fast Money round, you can ask them to go into a different room in their home where they can't overhear the game. Ask them to take their phone with them so you can text them when it's time to come back. Alternately, you can have the selected player temporarily leave the Zoom/Skype call, then text them when it's time for them to rejoin. If all else fails, just have them mute themselves on the call, cover their ears, and go "Lalalala" until it's their turn.

Definitely Try the Pen and Paper Variant!

The Pen and Paper format is perfect for online play, since you don't have to worry about establishing teams or doing the Fast Money round. Each participant needs something to write/type with, whether that's a pen and paper, a whiteboard, a phone, a word processing program on their computer, etc. (If your video-conferencing program allows private messaging, players could even directly message their answers to the host.) Give it a try!

Family Feud or Family Fortunes?

Family Feud has had tons of regional adaptations, from Argentina's 100 Argentinos Dicen to Indonesia's Super Family 100. The British version is known as Family Fortunes, and it first aired in 1980. Family Fortunes is nearly identical to Family Feud, though the Fast Money round is called "Big Money" in the UK (also, the answer board in Fortunes has the delightful nickname of "Mr. Babbage"). Since the gameplay is the same, these question ideas work just as well for playing Family Fortunes at home!
